Purer and higher-pitched on the nose than the Mont de Milieu, offering scents of white pepper, caraway seed, honey and minerals. Plush and fairly easygoing in the style of the year, with apricot and ripe peach flavors complemented by a wet stone element. Just a tad warm on the aftertaste.

The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre comes from 45-year-old vines and is matured for 14 months. It has a crisp, granitic, frangipane-tinged bouquet that is well defined, offering more flinty scents as it opens in the glass. The palate is fresh and citric on the entry, fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity and a touch of spiciness on the finish. It does not quite possess the detail of a top tier Montée de Tonnerre although you can appreciate the length. Fine, though I suspect that the 2014 will be at a higher level.
Really pure and mineral, this needs a bit of time; a densely layered yet quite ephemeral Chablis with plenty of depth behind it. Very serious. (AH)
A model of class and elegance, the 2013 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre hits all the right notes. Apple, pear, white flowers and crushed rocks are all nicely delineated in a saline, bright Chablis loaded with personality and class. The Montée de Tonnerre is one of my personal favorites in this range.
