VINTAGE MISMATCH---- The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons has a focused, orange-blossom and lemongrass-tinged bouquet that is well-defined with admirable vigor. The palate is charged with bitter lemon on the entry. I like the weight here, the salinity that surges toward the finish and begs you to take another sip. This is a well-crafted Vaillons that should age nicely over the next decade.

The 2013 Chablis Vaillons is quite pretty. Hints of tropical-infused fruit resonate throughout in an expressive, pliant Chablis with plenty of personality. This is a surprisingly dense, rich Vaillons, but all the elements are in balance.
Pale yellow. Tight aromas of citrus peel and caraway seed. Suppler and sweeter than the village wine, offering expressive, fairly dense flavors of apple, ripe peach, hawthorn and white flowers ("always early to open," notes winemaker Julien Martin). Finishes with edgy mineral and licorice notes. Am I underrating this?
