Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2018-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Moderately saturated medium red. Riper and less inky than the village Savigny, offering an aroma of dark cherry. Riper and broader in the mouth too but a bit dry in the middle and in need of at least a couple years in bottle to fill in. Still, with more volume, the tannins here come across as more successfully buffered. Firm minerality extends the finish. Still a bit minty but not hard.

The 2013 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Peuillets has a slight greenness infusing the blackberry and iodine scents, although there is decent freshness here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins, a little dusty in the mouth, with a broody, slightly short finish. I would have liked more energy at this stage and it just lacks substance.

That said, I do feel that the challenges of the 2013 growing season did compromise quality on some of the crus this year, and this was highlighted by the exceptions that served as pertinent reminders of what they can achieve. They faced the same travails as other growers during the year, their Savigny les Lavières virtually wiped out by the hail, thus blended with the Village Cru. They picked October 3-10 at around 25 hectoliters per hectare for the Savigny premier crus and the malolactics finished around the following July. One of the standouts is their Savigny-les-Beaune les Guettes that seemed to shrug off the vintage in its stride. eRobertParker.com.December, 2014
