Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2016-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2016

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons has a complete and harmonious bouquet with crisp citrus fruit, cold slate/flint aromas with a lovely smokiness coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced and quite rich considering the vintage. Hints of orange zest, lemon sorbet and tart red cherries, a keen line of acidity and impressive depth towards the finish. There is plenty of "guts" to this Chablis: flavorsome and satisfying. Tasted May 2016.

Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of yellow peach and apricot complemented by honey and a suggestion of oak. Less minerally and even riper than the village wine, showing a touch of surmaturité . Slightly dry-edged on the finish owing to the oak element.

The 2013 Chablis Vaillons is striking today. Partial vinification in oak gives the Vaillons an added level of textural breadth and raciness that works beautifully here. Yellow stone fruits and spices flesh out in an utterly irresistible, striking wine.

(filtered; partly bottled): Bright yellow-green. Slightly metallic following the recent filtering, showing almost gruner veltliner-like scents of lime zest, blond tobacco and white pepper. Pliant, sappy and intense, offering lovely ripeness to its juicy lemon and mineral flavors. Slightly bitter on the back end in its present phase--and a bit awkward today--but there's nothing austere about this wine.
