50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Bianco. ‘A very hot summer with drought-like conditions followed by heavy rainfall shortly before harvest led to excellent grape maturation in 2012. This vintage produced well-proportioned wines: fruit-forward without excessive alcohol content.’ Harvest 22 August to 10 September. First bottle Slightly oxidised nose and lack of fruit on the palate. Second bottle Fully mature nose with real evolution – obviously from a hot vintage. Rich and satisfying. (JR)

Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. Concentrated, oak-laced white fruit on the nose. Still tight on the palate and the oak shines clearly through at this stage, while the oily palate is finely textured and fresh. Worth waiting an additional year for. (WS)
Pineapple, mint, almonds and honey blossom in the 2012 Batàr, Querciabella's Chardonnay/Pinot Bianco blend. Querciabella has made such huge strides over the last few years, especially with Sangiovese, that tasting the 2012 Batàr is like going back into the past. Even in its more recent incarnation, Batàr comes across as out of place in this range.
Informazioni sul produttore
Literally translating as “beautiful oak”, Querciabella was created in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni. A pioneer in Chianti, he started farming biodynamically and experimenting with both varieties and winemaking – one result of which was Camartina, the property’s flagship Super Tuscan.
