Balance and power, two qualities that don't easily come together in a wine, are what best characterize this vintage. The Fattoria le Pupille 2010 Morellino di Scansano Riserva Poggio Valente reveals bright intensity and a strong, linear style. The fruit is softly textured, and there are hints of dusty mineral and toasted spice to frame it all. This wine has improved with bottle age.

Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, anise and wild flowers are laced together in the 2010 Poggio Valente Riserva. The 2010 impresses for its delineation, tension and pure sense of energy. Hints of sweet tobacco, mint, leather, spices and dark fruit add nuance to the understated finish. There is a lot to like here. A dollop of Merlot rounds out the blend.
