Punteggio 91/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2014

Dark cherries, underbrush, sweet tobacco, menthol and licorice meld together in the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that impresses for its nuance and overall complexity. The 2009 is beautiful and persistent on the palate, with excellent freshness for the vintage and enough structure to drink well for at least a handful of years. (AG)

A full, chewy red with velvety tannins and lots of berry, chocolate and cherry character. Rich and balanced. (ML)

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2017-2025, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as lush and concentrated with bold fruit tones that wrap smoothly over the palate. The wine is well-balanced and really doesn't show overt signs of the hot 2009 vintage. In fact, the bright crispness, backed by sharp aromas of chopped mint and blue flower, show the quality of fruit that comes from this historic estates from one of the southern-most and warmest points of the appellation. This is a beautiful effort that will award those who wait a bit longer. Drink: 2017-2025. All eyes are on Argiano since the famous property was purchased by Brazilian investors a few years back. This tasting confirms that the signature winemaking style has remained consistent across the estate's various denomination and IGT Toscana products. Importer: Vias Imports, www.viaswine.com

Deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Soft, candied and dusty and almost a little grubby. A little recipe-like with rich oak smothering very ripe jammy fruit. Not very original. (WS)
