Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

Beyond a touch of dried cassis, the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa is almost completely void of fruit. Ironically, a previous review of this wines raises this very question and I can confirm that the fruit is indeed gone. But the “wow” factor has not completely disappeared, especially if you love polished mineral tones and barbecue smoke that this wine delivers in spades. The cooling acidity has remained very much intact. A brief decanting is should suffice. Drink: 2014-2020.

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is a rich, weighty effort made in a riper and decidedly more modern style than the regular bottling. It offers plenty of dark fruit and toasted oak flavors, if less Sangiovese character, with excellent length on the palate and big, building tannins on the finish. Ideally a few years of cellaring are warranted after which this Brunello should drink well to age 20. Anticipated maturity

Good medium ruby. Sexy, somewhat briary aromas of plum, coffee, meat and leather; reminded me a bit of Vega Sicilia. Then penetrating, densely packed and very intensely flavored, with a compelling florality that complicates and lifts the berry and bloody steak flavors. Really mounts on the back end, finishing with noble tannins and superb sweetness. But this impressively vibrant Brunello is still young and clenched, in need of seven or eight years of additional cellaring. .
