The ruby/purple-colored 1997 Vosne-Romanee aux Brulees reveals a richly spicy nose, filled with red and black cherries. This plump, glycerine-imbued, oily textured, and broad wine offers super-ripe, spiced red fruit characteristics. Thick, harmonious, elegant, and extremely persistent, this complete wine should be at its best between 2001-2010. Good red-ruby color. Nose shows a liqueur-like ripeness, with notes of raspberry, flowers, ripe tomato and damp earth; I don't get the liveliness I usually find in the Leroy wines. Sweet, minerally and seamless in the mouth, if a bit subdued in the middle. Rather warm, superripe flavor of baked cherry. Showing rather awkwardly today. Incidentally, Rageot told me that this wine was not among the highest in alcohol in '97.
