Pale, green-tinged yellow. Perfumed, high-pitched nose melds lime, wild herbs and lavender. Very rich, ripe and sweet; a large-scaled wine with considerable power and compelling ripeness of fruit. Hazelnut and vanilla notes add to its immediate appeal. Colin is convinced that the longer elevage in 2008 resulted in wines that are much less exotic than they might otherwise have been (shades of 2003?), which led me to wonder about some very early-bottled wines I tasted elsewhere.

High-toned nose that’s pretty hidden at the moment. Blossomy top notes. Lots of mass and charm on the palate – tastes rather sweeter than most of his wines. Very distinctive, like all his wines. Should be a lovely bottle. Very slightly nutty. Very long – bigger boned than most of his wines. (JR)
Suave, lively aromas of orange oil and sexy spices. Superrich, sweet and tactile, with a distinctly fine-grained texture and impressive density. This is still quite unevolved but is distinctly easier to taste today than the Charmes.
