Punteggio 91-92/100 · Da bere 2008-2015, David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Dec 2008

Jasmine, quinine, iris, gardenia, and peach rise from Jadot’s 2006 Meursault Genevrieres. Succulently juicy yet creamy and dense on the palate, this gains richness and depth from roasted chestnut, marzipan, and crushed stone notes, all the while persisting in inner-mouth florality. This should keep well for 5-7 years at minimum. The impressive collection of Jadot 2006s were slow both in their alcoholic fermentation and their malo-lactic evolution, which director Jacques Lardiere considered all to the good when it came to imposing structure and building complexity in wines of such ripeness and relatively high alcohol. In any case, Jadot whites seldom complete their malo-lactic transformation, and if one seeks a vintage to demonstrate the virtues of that approach, surely 2006 is the poster child. Furthermore, anyone who thinks that there are no values left in white Burgundy today has clearly not given Jadot’s wide range the attention it deserves. (These wines were assembled from barrel for my tasting and/or tasted from a range of individual barrels. I have generally made note of those wines not owned by Jadot and its associates by at least indicating whether grapes or juice were purchased.) Bright yellow. Explosive, nectar-like aromas of peach and sweet spices. Fat, ripe and sweet, with harmonious acidity giving inner-mouth lift to the pear, mineral and stone flavors. At once fleshy and gripping, and quite long and brisk on the aftertaste.

The Genevrières vineyard is divided into four contiguous parcels totalling 16.6 ha in the very heart of Meursault’s southern Premiers Crus. Some blossom and real interest here. Very chewy still but masses of personality. Super friendly, with impressive length. (JR)

A seductive nose of mildly exotic fruit, natural spice, white flower and discreet toast notes introduces big, rich and full flavors that lack a bit of detail relative to the best wines in the range but the vibrant, sappy and seriously long finish is impressive. There is also enough acidity to prevent this from coming across as unduly heavy, in fact even after several hours of airing, it retains a very firm acid spine and should age well over the mid-term.
