Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2016-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Henri Boillot (whose parcel is incidentally adjacent to Dominique Lafon’s) has a modest nose: beeswax and lime flower coming through, just a touch of bruised apple, though like many Genevrières 2012, it seems to lack the precision of Les Charmes. The palate is clean and fresh on the entry, brisk and gaining more tension towards the finish, the most satisfying part of this wine thanks to its elegance and finesse.

Healthy bright yellow. Stone fruits, spices, white flowers and a leesy, Champagne-like suggestion of baked bread. Very ripe, layered and rich, but with enticing spicy lift keeping the wine from coming off as heavy. An impression of alcohol gives the finish a touch of sweetness. Probably for drinking before the 2013 version.

The 2012 Meursault Les Genevrières is wonderfully vivid and alive in the glass. Clean, vibrant layers of graphite-infused minerality support the vivid flavors in this beautifully chiseled, vibrant Genevrières. The 2012 captures both the richness of the vintage and the personality of this site. Naturally, there is a bit more volume in the glass than normal, but that just makes the wine approachable younger. Next to the Perrières, the Genevrières is just a bit fleshier and richer.

(domain bottling): Bright medium yellow. Fatter, richer and oakier on the nose than the Charmes. Then large-scaled, broad and ripe but quite dry in the mouth, showing subtle stone fruit flavors complicated by white pepper and a hint of honey. Finishes very long and extremely dry. Much less showy today than the Charmes, this will need longer to express itself.
