Punteggio 92/100 · David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

Grapefruit and lime mark the pungent nose and bright, juicy palate of Morey-Blanc’s 2007 Meursault Genevrieres, with distilled pit fruit and floral essences adding its high-toned allure. Yellow cherry, white peach, and lemon oil well up in an ester-rich display, along with mysteriously meaty, musky notes, and this finishes with impressive, chalk-lined length. This seems somehow to be a vintage especially well-suited to Genevrieres, and the present example should be worth following for the better part of a decade. Pierre Morey bottled the 2007s under his negociant label Morey-Blanc in early Spring, a bit ahead of his estate wines in the expectation that the former will open-up sooner for early enjoyment. I did not taste all of Morey’s offerings under this label, and some of the less expensive bottlings that I did taste were slightly inharmonious. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. Bright, green-tinged yellow. Refined aromas of lime, white flowers, powdered stone, violet and mint. Juicy, citric and dense, with saline minerality contributing to the impression of power. And yet there's something warm and generous about this full and aromatic wine that gives it elegance as well. Finishes with excellent grip. This is lower in acidity than the Charmes but should age well. As there's nothing exaggerated about this wine, it should be perfect alongside a simple fish preparation without a highly seasoned sauce.

From a new barrel: A bit more roasted and less pure on the nose than the foregoing examples, with hints of butter and hazelnut. Intensely flavored and gripping, with a strong component of nutty, spicy oak. The oak element gives the finish a slight dry edge. A taste from an older barrel showed a more subtle, floral nose; more harmonious acidity; and greater sweetness; but this wine is likely to be less rich than the Charmes. (I was only able to taste a sample of Corton-Charlemagne from one of Morey's three sources as the others were still in full malo, so I will withhold judgment on this wine.)
