The 1995 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico La Chimera offers up an array of coffee beans, chocolate, spices and prune notes on a medium-bodied frame. An understated Vin Santo, the Chimera nevertheless possesses outstanding length and terrific balance. This is a lovely effort from Monsanto.

An understated Vin Santo, the Chimera nevertheless possesses outstanding length and terrific balance. This is a lovely effort from Monsanto. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. This is another set of delicious wines from Monsanto. Unfortunately the estate did not produce its flagship Il Poggio in 2005, but the strength of the Chianti Classico Riserva in 2006 bodes very well for that vintage’s Il Poggio.
