Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Saint Aubin 1er Cru la Chatenière 2011 from Pierre-Yves Colin did not quite perform at the level of a few months ago. Nevertheless, it has a very precise bouquet with fine minerality coming through with aeration, the oak giving it a nice lift. The palate is clean and precise with bitter lemon and orange rind, although I snipped away a couple of points by a little reduction on the finish. I am sure that with decanting it would have blown off and I would have awarded a higher score.

Clean, confident, racy and tight. Crystalline structure. Rewarding. Rich enough to drink now but it clearly has a great future. Long. (JR)
Broader on the nose than En Remilly. Lots of fruit impact on the front palate and light smokiness again but plus wet stones. Very winning. Great energy. This wine has sufficient weight that you could actually drink it now but that would be a slight shame. Chapeau, Pierre-Yves! (JR)
Here a touch of mineral reduction adds breadth to the aromas of lemon zest and essence of pear. There is yet again a bit more volume to the caressing middle weight flavors that enjoy an abundance of dry extract yet the mouth feel is quite delicate yet the persistent and complex finish is distinctly vibrant and punchy. This is a very attractive cross between class, refinement and personality. Well worth considering. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2017+
