Punteggio 98/100 · Da bere 2019-2032, Neal Martin, May 2019

One of the standouts of the decade, the 1964 La Tâche Grand Cru vies with the 1962 and 1966. Showing modest bricking on the rim, it has a vigorous bouquet with copious red fruit mixed with black tea, briary and pressed flowers, beautifully defined but full and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with superb energy given its age, layers of red fruit laced with truffle and Provençal herbs, just a tang of Earl Grey towards the very persistent and quite haunting finish. Maybe the 1966 has more breeding but you cannot deny the brilliance of this wine. Tasted at a private dinner in Hong Kong.

Punteggio 98/100 · Da bere 2015-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, May 2015

Tasted at the La Tâche vertical at The Square. The La Tâche 1964 is one of those heaven-sent wines that you instantly know you might never drink again. This bottle clearly attested to what was a vintage studded with great wines from the domaine. First, there is that almost refulgent color, beaming at you from the glass. It seems more youthful than many of the subpar wines from the 1970s. The nose is divine: tart red fruit, briary, rose petal and Earl Grey tea all brilliantly defined. The palate is fresh and energetic–a 50-year old wine that has retained incredible tension and animation, while the finish has a pastille-like purity and real sucrose intensity. This is a quite brilliant wine from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

The 1964 La Tâche was another gorgeous wine endowed with a sweet, open bouquet and layers of silky, textured fruit that caressed the palate with notable grace.
