The 1996 Paleo Rosso represents the beginning of a transition that would eventually result in Paleo Rosso as it exists today. This is the first vintage to incorporate a dollop of Cabernet Franc (5%) in addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The cool, late-ripening harvest produced a savory, powerful Paleo. Mint, wild herbs, dark cherries and scorched earth are some of the many notes that are laced together on the massive, brooding finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon was especially challenged in 1996, but today, almost twenty years after the harvest, it is clear the wine is a success.

The 1996 Paleo Rosso (85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals chocolate, espresso, and mocha aromas, as well as new oak. Full-bodied and dense, with moderate tannin, outstanding concentration, and abundant quantities of sweet, jammy, black cherry fruit, the wine's low acidity and thick, juicy style suggest drinking it over the next decade.
