Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Corton Clos du Roi has a voluminous and generous bouquet with quite copious brambly red berry fruit that is nicely integrated with the oak. The palate is soft and very smooth in the mouth, however, those supple tannins deserve more complexity and nuance on the rather monochromatic finish, as if it presumed the job was done prematurely. There are better 2011s from this domaine.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2015-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2014

The 2011 Corton Le Clos du Roi is wonderfully supple, radiant and generous in the glass. Sweet red berries, tobacco, menthol and licorice blossom beautifully as the wine opens up. Ultimately though, the 2011 is a wine of pure texture. Surprisingly open and expressive for a young Corton, the 2011 will drink well right out of the gate. Fine, silky tannins support the finish in this round, expressive Clos du Roi.

An adroit application of wood frames a strikingly broad ranging nose that features notes of violet, lilac, game, earth, smoke, spice, red currant, cassis and blue berry. The rich, intense and tautly muscular broad-scaled flavors display focused power and plenty of punch though there is less rusticity than is typical thanks to the relatively fine grain of the supporting tannins on the driving finish. This very gamy effort will require 10 years or so to be at its best. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2021+
