Punteggio 95+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2011

Pale yellow. Tight, slightly metallic nose hints at lemon, lime, green tea, creme brulee and vanillin oak. Very ripe but firm on entry, with penetrating stone fruit and lemon-lime flavors. Then explosive on the back half, with a rising, compellingly tactile and sweet finish that suggests a great future. These vines were picked very late, noted winemaker Prost, who added that he used a higher percentage of new oak for this cuvee (18%) than for any of his other whites in '09.

A cool, fresh and densely fruited nose of crushed citrus, green apple and mineral reduction gives way to seriously concentrated and overtly muscular flavors that possess a suave and silky mouth feel yet do not lack for an underlying reserve of power. This isn't as fine as the Montrachet but it's even longer, at least at present with a chewy character that provides evidence of the massive levels of extract. Even so, don't buy this with the intention of drinking it young as it will require plenty of cellar time, at least if you want to see its full potential realized. Don't Miss!

Rich, lightly toasty, bright lemon and almost limey freshness. Tense, dry but the acidity seems relatively mild so the whole thing is quite approachable for a grand cru. Well balanced and elegant, more length than power. (JH)
