1997 Corton Charlemagne

Rapet's claim to fame is his superb Corton-Charlemagne (the estate owns an impressive 2.5 hectares, or 6.17 acres, of this grand cru). Harvested three weeks after the ban de vendange, the 1997 reveals fabulous sur-maturite, red fruit, and poached pear aromas. This opulent, oily-textured, and flavorful wine is densely packed with apricots, peach pits, buttered toast, and spiced apples. It possesses wonderful richness, massive ripeness, and a long, detailed finish. This impeccably crafted Corton-Charlemagne can be drunk now or held through 2008.
