Dark crimson. Healthy sheen. Pretty full – verging on opulent in the context of 2001! Lots of slightly stodgy tannins on the finish. Tries hard in a very slightly rustic idiom. Phélan Ségur? (JR)
Full, scented, attractive wine that is perhaps not typical St Estèphe but will give lots of pleasure. Round and gentle fruit is admirably appetising. (JR)
Made in a lovely, soft, seductive style, the dark ruby/plum-tinged 2001 Phelan Segur offers up alluring scents of flowers, cedar, dried herbs, and red as well as black fruits. Medium-bodied and supple-textured, with subtle notes of creamy oak, this is a sexy, mid-weight wine to enjoy over the next 6-7 years.
