48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, 16% Cabernet Franc. 44.88 hl/ha. Harvested 3 to 25 September. Deep, bright colour. Still incredibly youthful. Graphite, blackcurrant and menthol notes. Savoury edge as well. Lots of fruit still, the palate ripe but dry. Fairly punchy tannins so a bit of chew on the finish. Maintains freshness. Still going strong. Remarkable for the vintage. (JL)

The 2003 Meyney was one of a cluster of wines from the Northern Médoc that performed very well in this infamous growing season, even if it cannot hold a candle to the top Saint-Estèphes. It has a ripe damson and cedar nose with a little fig and raisin developing, fraying slightly at the seams yet still fresh. The palate has softened in recent years, and there is plenty of fruit in situ, but the 2003 turns quite brazen toward the finish, where the imprimatur of that hot summer is evident. Still, it has aged well, even if not up to the standard of recent vintages. Tasted from a bottle at home.
Dark crimson. Translucent and appetising and so delicate and ethereal! Quite exceptional. So lifted. Very well done, lots of fruit there. Even if not that much density. (Average group score: 16.8) (JR)
