1983 Meyney

Coming from a solid vintage largely overshadowed by 1982, the 1983 Château Meyney is fully mature yet still displays a deeper ruby hue and plenty of life. It has classic aromatics of dark, earthy fruits, cedar pencil, graphite, damp earth, and iron, with more spicy nuances emerging with air. It held up beautifully over the course of an evening and is medium to full-bodied, with a nicely concentrated, still mouth-filling and structured texture, resolved tannins, and a clean, lengthy finish. Lovers of mature Bordeaux will find loads to love here, and given how well it handles air, it should have another decade or more of overall longevity. It’s certainly not going to improve, but there’s plenty to enjoy today.
