Drunk from magnum, the 1982 Meyney is showing very well, bursting with aromas of sweet red berries and plums mingled with notions of truffle, loamy soil and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's a broad, textural wine with good concentration and a long, lusty finish.

The 1982 Meyney is a wine that I have encountered once before. It's decent enough, presenting a distinctly earthy/leathery nose with humidor scents, although you wish there was more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and angular in style, with modest weight, but disappointingly, it flatlines on the finish. Should be drunk soon. Tasted from a bottle at home.

Quite deeply coloured and strong red notes at the core still. Fresh and lightly herbal, even a little note of pepper and capsicum and fresh cedar but also some undergrowth and a delicate meatiness and sweet leafy red fruit. That meatiness follows through on the palate but it is smooth and surprisingly rich still. Elegant and scented on the mid palate. With time, more peppery and a touch of coffee. A final grip shows it is not over yet.
