Aromas of dried flowers, cocoa and sweetly fragrant red flowers sit fresh, ahead of gentle leather and dried red cherries. Add to this a more savory thread on the palate and this has plenty still to offer. Drink over the next six years.

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso is a jewel. Translucent and also powerful at the same time, the 2004 blossoms in the glass with magnificent texture, depth and pure resonance. Rose petal, mint, spice and sweet red berries all open up in a seamless, voluptuous Brunello. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The Vigna di Pianrosso is a bit more evolved in its aromatic than the straight Brunello, but in exchange it has greater textural depth and pure power.
Good deep red. Plum, spicecake and chocolatey oak on the nose; just this side of roasted. Then sweeter, deeper and more pliant than the basic release, with a chewier texture and an almost liqueur-like richness to its fruit. As big and lush as this is, it's got very good supporting spine and is not at all overly sweet. Finishes with excellent length.
Blackish crimson. Light, tarry nose. Very chewy tannins. Really very firm, even slightly green! Hard work at the moment. Maybe it will get there eventually. Certainly one of the most youthful Brunello 2004s. Notable acidity. (JR)
