Less expressive than the Lavières, and more mineral. Non flashy – quite solid instead. Dry and taut with particularly fine tannins on the finish. Tight and inky. Purity rather than charm. (JR)

There is more overt chewiness of tannin to go with the impressive density of Leroy’s 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Aux Allots, which leads with red currant and rhubarb, comes to the palate with soy-like savor and chalky minerality, and finishes long on bright fruit and invigorating savor, but also relatively implacable tannin. Good bright, deep red with ruby highlights. Fruitier aromas of black cherry and flowers. Sweet and juicy, with brisk acids giving shape and grip to the pure dark cherry flavor. On the lean side but with plenty of flavor intensity.
