The 2009 Alpha Syrah contains 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Viognier. It spent 12 months in French oak. The aromatics receive a pleasing lift from the Viognier component in addition to notes of meat, game, lavender, and blueberry. Rich, layered, and long, this pleasure-bent Syrah has the structure to evolve for another 2-3 years and will be at its best from 2013 to 2021. Aurelio Montes has a well-earned reputation as one of Chile’s foremost vignerons.
