Punteggio 90/100 · David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

The Morot 2006 Beaune Bressandes offers a fascinating nose mingling underbrush and stewed red fruits with spruce resin and smoked meat. It boasts a depth of flavor, back-end expansiveness and persistence, as well as a creaminess of texture that not only serve for current complexity and allure, but point toward half a dozen years of harmonious bottle evolution. Deep notes of marrow, autumn foliage, and wet stone provide the bass line for this very satisfying performance. After waiting to harvest until only the last four or five days of September, Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry reports having done a rigorous sorting and ultimately assembling his 2006s earlier than usual – in February, with bottling a month later – in order to preserve fruit. Deep, bright red. Complex, vinous nose offers raspberry, cherry, mocha and tobacco. Suave on entry, then rather backward in the middle palate, hinting at a musky complexity but showing more soil tones than primary fruit today. Boasts a silkier texture than the Aigrots and an enticing restrained sweetness and captivating inner-palate perfume, but this will need time. Very nicely balanced and serious wine, finishing with substantial tongue- and toothdusting tannins. This wine has been backward from the start.

Bright, saturated ruby-red. Tight nose hints at blacker fruits, licorice and leather. Rich, sweet and very young, with a chewy texture and noteworthy purity to the primary, medicinal flavors of dark fruits and licorice. Finishes long and strong, gaining in breadth and texture toward the back. Not yet displaying its personality, but this wine should have very good structure for a slow evolution in bottle.
