Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2017-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2016

The 2011 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has a similar bouquet to the Fourchaume, quite earthy with a touch of fresh asparagus, although here there is great intensity. The palate is fresh and vibrant, quite saline in the mouth, a little chalkiness to the texture and the finish feels tightly wound at the moment. I would afford this another couple of years in bottle, because I feel that it has more to give. Tasted June 2016.

Smoke, slate, gunpowder and grapefruit all emerge from the 2011 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre. With time in the glass, the wine takes on exotic shades of expression, but never loses its totally crystalline personality. Deceptively medium in body, the 2011 is vivid, mesmerizing and flat-out stunning. Cured meats, white flowers, white pepper and volcanic ash linger on the pure, delineated finish.

Bright, pale straw-yellow. Musky peach, pepper and spices on the nose, plus a whiff of asparagus. Silky on entry, then moderately ripe in the middle, with a distinctly dusty, tactile texture to its brisk flavors of pepper, menthol and mint. Best today on the lingering, classically dry finish, which hints at sweet pepper. I'd hold this for three years before pulling the cork.

Some complexity and evolution on the nose. Tight, tense fruit and not a spare ounce of fat. This is all muscle. Needs time. (JR)
