A rather odd nose yet with some pretty, floral red fruit. A bit of a weird, confected fruit cocktail, with rather severe tannin.

Medium intensity ruby, tobacco and redcurrant, this is fully ripe fruit, heading towards fig, tight architecture showing leather and undergrowth. Ready to drink, lacking some of the clarity of expression that is typical in the vintage.
Poured from magnum, the 2010 Grand-Puy Ducasse offers fresh brambly red fruit tones and far more mineralité /terroir expression compared to older vintages poured at this tasting. The oak here feels more integrated. The palate is well defined and quintessentially Pauillac, with admirable focus, a crunchy texture and graphite notes toward the finish. This is well worth seeking out. Tasted at the Grand-Puy Ducasse event in London.
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Grand-Puy-Ducasse gives up notes of blackcurrant pastilles, prunes and fruitcake with wafts of espresso and oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has very good fruit concentration, with a firm, grainy texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.

The 40 hectares of this Pauillac Fifth Growth are spread across three sites, pieced together in the 18th century by Pierre Ducasse. Today owned by France’s Crédit Agricole bank, they have some very fine vineyard land, with their northernmost plot neighbouring Mouton and Lafite.
