Punteggio 16/20 · Da bere 2015-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2017

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. A soil audit was carried out and vineyard restructuring began this year, with Cabernet Sauvignon vines moved to the best terroirs while lower quality vines were grubbed up due to their age or due to their unsuitability for the soils. The land was then prepared for cultivation again. Dark ruby. Firm sucky stony nose. Cool and fresh but not very concentrated. Decidedly light. Ticks the boxes but no more. (JR)

The 2006 Grand Puy Ducasse has a simple, pleasant, tobacco and leather tinged bouquet that gently unfolds in the glass, though you know it will never get out of fourth gear. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with pencil lead infusing the black fruit, foursquare and classic in style, missing some depth but with respectable length. This is as good as I could have expected, yet you still cannot help comparing it with its peers and desiring more. Tasted April 2016.

Very dark crimson. Fragrant and already well integrated on the nose. Sweet, succulent start. Not concentrated but not skinny either. Good balance. Welcoming, just that slight green note on the finish puts me off. Otherwise it would get a higher mark. (JR)
