Punteggio 92+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2010

Good deep red. Pungent aromas of raspberry, strawberry, smoke and minerals. At once silky and powerful, with excellent precision to the flavors of smoky red berries and minerals. A strong note of gingerbread spice and an edge of acidity add to the impression of grip. In fact, this dense, sweet wine went into a shell in the glass. With 48 hours in the recorked bottle it showed more tangy mineral and red fruit flavors while retaining its edge of acidity. This will need six or seven years of patience. (This note supersedes my note in Issue 143, when I tasted this wine just after it was bottled.)

(just bottled) Good deep red. Highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, hawthorn, earth and musky oak, all lifted by minerals. Sweet, lush and rather pliant on entry, then opulent but firmly structured in the middle palate, and a bit unforthcoming today after the recent bottling. The nose reminded me of Clos de la Roche, while the palate is more classic Gevrey. A big boy, and long on the aftertaste.

A more refined and more elegant but very cool, even restrained nose of red pinot, blue berry and intense floral notes, particularly violets, introduces rich, pure and sleekly muscled full-bodied flavors built on a base of borderline strict minerality while culminating in an impeccably balanced, serious and gorgeously long finish. I really like the sense of underlying tension and if this can add more depth in time, my rating could be considered conservative. Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
