The 2004 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru from Rossignol-Trapet has one of the best aromatics from among 13 wines tasted from this infamous growing season. No greenness here, just delightful red cherry, crushed strawberry and light white peppery aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins and decent if decayed red fruit. The slightly dry yet still pleasurable finish possesses much more length than Roumier’s Bonnes-Mares tasted alongside. Drink soon. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London.

Mid ruby. Something rather unexpectedly fine-boned about the lifted nose of this. Really rather delicate! But with a fine composition and pace. No excess acidity and although the fine tannins are still evident, there is plenty of crisp fruit to compensate. Really expressive of the climat. Long and racy. Juicy and a complete charmer though the tannins are just a little dry on the end. (JR)
Cask sample. Scented. Perfumed. Very majestic. Very firm. Pretty impressive. No prisoners, but should make something exciting eventually. (JR)
