Punteggio 88/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2011

Nose dominated by smoky oak. Lemon and talc on the palate, which offers good verve and intensity but only moderate flesh. Enlivened today by some unabsorbed CO2. With modest mid-palate stuffing, this persistent wine is currently a bit locked up inside its structure.

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2013, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2011

The 2009 Meursault bursts from the glass with explosive fruit. This is a beautiful, layered wine that stands out next to the other 2009s for its creamy, expansive personality. The wine tapers off nicely towards the pointed finish. The Meursault is made from parcels in Clous-Dessus, Chaumes de Narvaux and Limozin.

Anticipated maturity: 2013+. Fichet was among the first producers to harvest in 2009. Picking began on September 2 and lasted just 5 days as opposed to the more typical 7-8. The wines spent 12 months in oak followed by 6 months in steel. These are some of the most bright, tense wines of the vintage. In that sense, they don’t have a lot of vintage character per se, despite being very appealing. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (707) 996-4484

Quite rich but with a fine seam of acdity. Pretty damn good and no worries about fatness! (JR)
