Punteggio 93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2013

Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Very subtle scents of pear, lemon, lime, menthol, crushed stone and spices. Intensely flavored and serious, with excellent marne energy to the white peach, lemon oil and stone flavors. Supple yet quite penetrating for 2011, finishing citrussy and long but not at all hard. Very Chablis, in a rather modern style. Seguier noted that these very old virused vines produced only 35 hectoliters per hectare in 2012. They reach 45 only in copious years like 2007 and 2004, he added.

Mealy, cereal notes and green apple fruit. Broad but not creamy, rather having quite a tart, piqued finish. (RH)

Aged 12-15 months on fine lees in barrel. This is perfectly OK but really doesn't show grand-cru status. Has a little more drive than the Vaudésir but I think I am being generous with the score, even though it does have good length. Hard to tell how well/long these will age. Perhaps I am being too conservative but they just don't seem to have the stuffing for a long life. (JH)

The 2011 Chablis Valmur shows marvelous intensity, focus and verve. This is a decidedly vibrant Chablis endowed with notable purity and sheer energy, although today some of that may be the result of a racking one week before this tasting. Valmur is usually a much more open wine, so it will be interesting to see how things shape up over the coming year.
