2008 Meursault Blagny

Bright, pale yellow. Less fruity and more minerally on the nose. There's an almost metallic quality to the juicy lemon and lime flavors and yet the wine does not come across as austere. Still, this is in a much drier style and finishes a bit rigorous, with notes of spices and fresh herbs. This rather penetrating wine boasts plenty of personality but needs a couple years to unwind.

Much more mineral and less obviously appealing on the nose than the straight Meursault. Straight and determined. Underlying mineral power and depth. Austere but in a good way. (JH)

Musky pineapple and a hint of buttery reduction on the nose. Dense, ripe and rich, with lovely intensity and an almost salty impression of minerality. Very dynamic and very Blagny. Finishes chewy and long, with strong, soil-driven minerality. This had just finished its malolactic fermentation at the time of my visit and was the only tastable 2008 in this cellar.
