Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2013-2018, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

The 2010 Beaune 1er Cru Les Boucherottes has a warm, open, generous nose with hints of warm bricks infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is smooth and silky on the entry. It is a fleshier than I expected with a well-defined finish: an approachable Beaune, but one that will age well over the next decade. Drink now-2018. This was the first time I had been back to Louis Jadot’s expansive winery on the northern outskirts of Beaune since their memorable 150th anniversary tasting back in 2008. As I quipped in the previous issue, Jacques Lardiere was then talking about his imminent retirement that seemed to never come. But on this occasion, there was new winemaker Frederic Barnier there to greet me. He has large shoes to fill but he seems up to the task of steering this important Burgundy name to a new chapter, having worked alongside Jacques for a couple of years. “At the beginning, we were not so confident about the whites,” he explained in reference to his 2011s, “but it has been a nice surprise. The dry spring of 2011 affected the level of ripeness but it has lent freshness, but with low acidity.” We did not have time to taste the entire portfolio of over 80 crus, but instead took a sample of 20 white and reds from both the 2010 and 2011 vintages. The 2010 Beaune Boucherottes, from a parcel on the lower part of the hill, emerges from the glass with sweet roses, red cherries, raspberries and white flowers. This is a relatively bright, focused style that shows the more feminine side of Beaune. Clean mineral notes give the finish an attractive element of pure energy. The Boucherottes should drink well upon release.

Good full red. Sappy aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, mocha and menthol, complicated by sexy earth notes. Suave and fine-grained, with enticing inner-mouth perfume to the redcurrant, cherry and stone flavors. Finishes with fine, sweet tannins, solid structure and excellent length. Expressive, energetic Beaune wine with excellent potential.

Pale ruby. Pale rim. Very open and a bit lacking in focus. Extraordinarily fruity on the palate. Pretty but difficult to see any use racing over this. Slightly bitter cough-sweet flavour on the finish. (JR)
