Mid ruby with orange rim. Vigorous Nebbiolo nose with a flattering oak note and with just the beginning of undergrowth. Stylish, concentrated and beautifully balanced on the palate and with proper tannins to chew on. Great wine from a great vintage . The most ‘Barolo-like’ of this line-up. (WS)

Complex, full cherry and baking spice nose. This certainly looks younger than it is with just the beginning of mulch. Chewy tannic finish nicely balanced by cherry fruit. (WS)
Mature looking, mid ruby. Clearly oaked, but with lovely ripe, mature fruit underneath. Powerful tannin but without becoming too dominant. Great length and the muscular tannin indicates this could go on for quite some time. Real Nebbiolo breed. Modern. (WS)
The 2004 Roero Roche d'Ampsèjcomes across as somewhat closed, yet it also appears to offer much potential. Made in an intense, weighty style, it gradually sneaks up on you with its velvety texture and layers of dark cherries, spices, smoke and sweet toasted oak.
