The ruby-colored 1999 Nuits-St.-Georges Aux Lavieres has one of the lightest colors I have ever seen in a Leroy wine. It reveals raspberry and sweet cherry aromas that lead to its medium-bodied, candied berry, and red fruit-flavored character. Bright ruby-red. Deep, pungent aromas of currant, raspberry, dark chocolate and Oriental spices. Smooth but fresh and delineated, with a lovely fruit/acid balance and restrained sweetness. This makes the Allots seem almost brutal by comparison. Finishes with fine tannins and persistent, ripe fruit.
