Dark and woodsy, the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino smolders with a mature bouquet of cedar, underbrush, tobacco and cherry sauce. It’s juicy with fresh acidity, but a slightly dank mineral resonance lingers on the short finish. The 2006 Renieri has seen its best days.

Crimson centre, rim just starting to show some orange. Sweet nose with hints of tobacco and bell pepper. Sweet and slightly herbal too on the palate. Strange juxtaposition of very ripe fruit and herbal, almost vegetal aromas. Drying tannins. (WS)
