The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino shows the signs of excessive French oak in its oxidative aromas and dry tannins. There is good depth and concentration in the fruit, but the wine lacks energy. The tannins are excruciatingly hard. It is hard to see this wine ever finding a sense of balance.

Deep, concentrated ruby, just starting to show some orange on the rim. Sweet and slightly weedy on the nose. Seems already developed with tobacco-leaf notes. Candied fruit and juicy cherry on the palate, but not very harmonious. (WS)
