The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is amazingly fresh, cascading up from the glass with vivid strawberry and cherry complemented by minty herbs and nuances of sweet smoke. It sweeps across the palate with silky textures propelled by juicy acidity. A subtle citrus tinge adds tension as crisp red berry fruits slowly saturate. The 2006 is incredibly long, with licorice saturation as a twang of cranberry enlivens the senses. This is stunning today and shows no signs of decline.

Good deep, bright red. Highly perfumed nose combines currant, violet, fresh bay, minerals, menthol and spices. Rich but juicy and not overly sweet, with lovely energy and spice contributing to the impression of sharp definition. In a cooler, tightly wound style, finishing with firm but fine tannins, brisk acidity and strong lingering fruit.
