Note di degustazione
At 23 years of age, distinct tertiary notes are now showing on the wine with blue cheese, roasted walnut and rosehip aromas coming from the glass. There is still so much vibrant acidity in the wine, however, with dried cherry, sage and light herbal tones. The tannins are not quite as silky as the younger vintages but the acidity is still striking. It is perhaps marked by the winemaking style of the time but still retains Soldera’s beautiful tenderness.

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is focused, vibrant and high-toned. I bought six bottles of this on release and can attest to the remarkable transformation this wine has had since its early days. The style is one of linear intensity and brightness, with notably delineated lines sketching the Sangiovese fruit.
Today, the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is simply gorgeous. Frankly, I am amazed (and delighted) at how it has come together. Sweet, floral and perfumed, the 1999 remains a relatively mid-weight wine by Soldera standards, but that just adds to immediacy and appeal. Stylistically, the 1999 is a delicate wine, but it has turned out far better than I ever thought it would.
The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous, perfumed and delicate. I have experienced significant bottle variation with this vintage, but this particular bottle is among the finest I have ever tasted.
