Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2020-2024, Neal Martin, Jun 2020

The 2003 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru from Tollot-Beaut has a lively, minty bouquet that leaps from the glass, displaying more energy than its peers. The palate is well balanced with smudged black fruit, mint and soy. It dries out toward the rather monotone, beefy finish, but does offer a little pleasure. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London.

Rather lustrous dark ruby – but look at that alcohol! Some ferny freshness on the nose. Sweet start and a bit like fermented Spangles (red hard candy). Lots of alcohol, and tannin, on the end. Full on – not trying to hide the vintage character! Reminds me of several ambitious New World Pinots. Drying finish. (JR)

As it usually is, this is slightly finer with seductive plum and cassis aromas wrapped around a mineral core that introduce dusty, sweet and superbly intense medium full flavors that offer a bit more detail yet even more power. Ironically, this seems to be less elegant than the Corton and not quite as well balanced though I still quite like it.

Reluctantly revealing a demure black cherry-scented nose (it had just finished its malo-lactic fermentation), the medium-bodied 2003 Corton-Bressandes (red) is a satin-textured beauty. Loads of red cherries are intermingled with notes of dark fruits in this effort’s well-focused, fresh, lengthy personality. It should be drunk between 2007 and 2014.
