The estate used more Sangiovese in this blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Alicante because there was more of it at harvest time, and they liked the results of those higher blending percentages anyway. The 2007 was more evolved compared to the 2006 Caiarossa, which comes out much more balanced. There is good dark fruit with dark cherry. Now is the time to open this bottle if you have it.

First vintage of Dominque Génot, who runs the estate. ‘Since then I changed my path a little.’ Less international? ‘Yes.’ Typical internationally moulded dark fruit and oak with notes of tobacco. It is a pretty whole but the oak is quite evident. Looks like there was a push for almost overripeness, but still holds up well. (WS)
Blend of biodynamically farmed 23% Sangiovese, 22% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Alicante, 6%Petit Verdot and 6% Syrah. Combination of barriques and tonneaux with only 30% new oak. Excellent weather conditions and healthy grapes after a dry summer. Pale, mature ruby. Mellow amalgam of very ripe red fruits. Excellent Sangiovese freshness – indeed this is the dominant flavour – very definitely more Tuscan than Bordeaux in influence. Very light dustiness but the fruit dominates. Very appetising finish and admirable persistence. Not at all like most Bolgheri Bordeaux blends and much fresher than most Montalcino wines. I like t! (JR)
