Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2014-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi 2011 is endowed with a nose that welcomes you with open arms: fresh strawberry, Morello and a touch of fruit salad. There is plenty of oak, though it is nicely assimilated, well defined and precise. The palate is crisp and pointed with a silver thread of acidity, fine tension and a nice bitter edge that shaves off a little persistence, but beckons you to take another sip.

The 2011 Beaune Clus du Roi is a bit more clenched than some of the other entry-level wines in the range. Energy and persistence are the signatures in an attractive, mid-weight Burgundy to drink over the next handful of years.

Good medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, licorice, leather and sweet oak are lifted by a floral element. Juicy and intense, with penetrating acidity framing the dark berry and spice flavors. Less dense than the 2012 version, with the dusty tannins less covered by fruit. But this tight, very fresh wine finishes with terrific floral lift. Needs several years in bottle for its fruit and tannins to harmonize.

Bright, deep red. Wild aromas of black cherry, smoke and leather. Quite dry and firm, in fact a bit youthfully tough right now, dominated by its serious tannic spine. In an awkward stage today, showing a faint dryness on the finish.
