Tasted at the château, the 2003 Château Doisy-Védrines has a slightly muffled bouquet with dried orange peel and melted wax aromas. The palate is full-bodied, rich and unctuous, though it needs more acidity and feels a little fat and laboured on the finish. This is enjoyable but I feel it is treading water compared to other vintages.

Bright yellow-gold. Spicy, ripe, complex aromas of peach, apricot, orange and nutmeg. Juicy, shapely and sweet, with lovely inner-mouth lift and aromatic character. High-toned and expressive but also quite fresh and precise for the year. Finishes impressively long and firm. A very strong performance for this chateau, and a good value.
Some green notes. Not much nose. Just full opulence. Very, very big and satisfying, but without much subtlety. Very round. Some green notes. Still slightly astringent. (JR)

Owned by the Castéja family (of Ch. Batailley) since 1946, Ch. Doisy-Védrines produces a particularly rich and full-bodied style of wine, with around 80% of the vines Semillon. Although located in Barsac, the wines are bottled under the Sauternes appellation.
