From a vintage that was a particular success chez Bouchard, the 2003 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus wafts from the glass with a youthful mélange of sweet berries, cassis, dark chocolate and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with powdery tannins and ripe acids, it's not especially complex, but it's aging very gracefully.

Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with powdery tannins and ripe acids, it's not especially complex, but it's aging very gracefully.
Bright ruby-red. Complex, soil-inflected nose combines black plum, black cherry, bitter chocolate, mocha and gingerbread. Superripe and sweet but not stewy. Suave and fine-grained, with a rather open-knit texture but a juiciness at the core. Finishes very subtle and long. Hervet rates this with vintages like '99, '64, '49 and '47, but believes that it's superior to the '99.
