The 1976 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jesus was served from magnum – one of the last remaining in Bouchard's cellars. It has a slightly muffled, leafy, meaty nose that could not disguise the incessant warmth of that growing season. That said, the palate offers more freshness and better acidity than I expect, a slightly rough-hewn Beaune typical of that era. What it was bestowed in density it certainly lacks in finesse, but given the age I would not have too many complaints. Tasted at the Bouchard dinner at La Gavroche.
