Note di degustazione
40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Superb vintage, according to current winemaker Axel Heinz. Textbook conditions. 51 separate base wines produced from different parcels. 17 months in oak, with blending after 12 months. 25% new barrels. Sweeter and smells more red-fruited and more expressive than the 2010 with a hint of tea leaf and fine herbs, plus black olives with time in the glass. Lovely aromatic freshness and fine, fine texture, so utterly sophisticated and unbelievably youthful. Tannins still have some chew though they are lithe and supple and becoming silky. (JH)

Serre Nuove is the estate's second wine. It is made from barrels that are culled out of the selection process for Ornellaia with most of the fruit coming from the estate's younger vines. The 2004 Serre Nuove offers beautiful harmony in its ripe fruit, outstanding length and fine tannins. It is a great example of the level of quality achieved by the second wines in this vintage.
